Thursday is the new Tuesday!

I need to chop up the production of the show into different parts, because rendering the video in the different stages takes a lot more time for the HD show. No problem, the computer can do that alone. But the gaps are now so large that I can’t fit the production into one day.

The problems with the video decoding are caused by the use of the “AVC1” codec. This thing is quite modern and powerful, but needs a lot of machine resources and current software for playing it.

I can’t help you if your machine is too slow to play the video – you’ll have to switch to the mobile version and have basically the same quality as before except for a worse zoom factor. If there is demand for an intermediate format we can do that also – just write a comment with a proposition.

Mac/Quicktime users find an update here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23875/avc1decoder, for Windows this was recommended: http://download.cnet.com/The-KMPlayer/3000-13632_4-10659939.html

As I don’t use Windows or Mac I can’t t tell you what happens if you install the software. πŸ˜‰ And if you have additional tips, links and comments, click on the heading of this posting and you’ll see a comment area below.

  1. It’s perhaps time to negotiate with your wife an intel Core i7 or to pray that cuba come to linux soon to encode with the help of the GRU πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

  2. I posted a script at the forum that will generate a quicktime compatible mp4. The resulting file plays well in Quicktime 7 for windows xp, so it should work on OS X too. Check it out

  3. Danke sehr, Rolf.

You’re videos are an invaluable resource for unlocking the power of the GIMP. I thank you very much for taking the time to make these videos. I’ve only worked through the first two, but I can tell I’m going to really get a lot out of these well-produced web films.

I’m a laid off journalist trying to scratch together an online magazine and am using GIMP instead of Adobe Photoshop to save money. At least that was my initial reason. It’s a very powerful photo editor.

    Thanks so much.

  4. Christopher,

I hope you’ll be successful with your project – may I suggest that you contact Ivo at http://autozine.eu? He makes an online magazine with GIMP for years and can still afford a small car and something to eat. πŸ˜‰
