Peter Sikking makes a point why we will never get CYMK support in GIMP – but something better – Plates. To be honest, this concept includes CYMK. He has made a talk at the libre graphics meeting this year and explains it in detail. Worth to wait for!

Hopefully, he will be heard by the developers. I think he really invested a lot of time to dig into this. And I agree in all points with his lecture…
As you can see on the free hand select tool, they hang on his lips.
He made the interface design for that.

Nice, but… It would allow a workflow like CMYK?
